Local funeral directors for Aberdeen
About Mark Shaw Funeral Services, Aberdeen
Mark Shaw has worked in the funeral profession for over 33 years. He has worked in a variety of firms both private and national prior to opening Mark Shaw Funeral Services in 2003. It has always been his goal to provide an exceptional level of service, the best facilities and an excellent team.
Mark has a degree in Economics from Aberdeen University and for a time worked in a private client department with a law firm, gaining invaluable experience in legal matters surrounding bereavement. Mark is qualified both as a funeral director and embalmer. He is also a Burgess of the City of Aberdeen.
Having always wanted to run his own funeral company, Mark realised this ambition in 2003 when he started his first funeral home at 347 George Street in Aberdeen. A second funeral home was opened in March 2009 at the former Kincorth Surgery at 26 Abbotswell Crescent, Kincorth. This increased our capability to properly care for bereaved families.
In 2019, the neighbouring property, a large guesthouse, was purchased. The two buildings were linked and a large new mortuary facility was custom built, along with additional office space, family rooms, staff facilities and increased parking. This has allowed for a significant improvement to the scope of services offered.
In February 2026, we were pleased to add a further location to our business, opening a newly renovated funeral home on Muirend Road, Portlethen. This new location will enable us to better serve the many families we already look after in Portlethen, Chapelton, Newtonhill, Stonehaven and surrounding areas.
Mark Shaw Funeral Services is a member of the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors and The British Institute of Embalmers. These organisations provide independent inspection and audit of our facilities and procedures. Over a number of years the business has also provided services both to Police Scotland and Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Local Authorities.
We serve all local areas in and around Aberdeen and will often travel further afield to conduct funeral services when requested to do so.
